The X-BIONIC range is a Swiss brand young to the UK market. I have been using their Run Speed Metal socks during training and racing over the last 6 months, conditions have ranged from the cold and wet in the UK to 40c + during an Ultra in Spain. Writing a review for a pair of socks is very difficult, essentially a good pair of socks should just work, describing why they work can be quite difficult, however here goes.
One of the features of the brand is heat regulation and certainly the socks has performed well in hot conditions, paired with the right footwear, heat conductibility is noticeably effective, equally the same conductibility means that the socks drain and dry quickly when used in wet conditions.
The socks feature extra padding around the heel and toe box and a left and right fit, highlighted by a L and R on the appropriate sock (which always reminds of the 80’s comedian Jimmy Cricket!). Generally the quality of finish is of a high standard, they have aged well despite a hard life and certainly stand out from the crowd with their striking colour scheme if that is important to you.
In summary I have been very happy with the socks, they performed very well in hot conditions without any compromises in more typical UK conditions. Many of you will already have personal favorites and I would not claim any overwhelming reasons why you should suddenly change, however if you are looking for something new the X Sock Run Speed Metal would be worthy of consideration, particularly if you have plans to train or race in a hot environment.
