A big thanks to Matt, Barry and all the other support staff for their tireless work in making ‘Something for the weekend’ a big success. I thought it was a superb location for hard racing, nice relaxed campsite in a wonderful setting, great racing, great company and we had good weather. Now to spread the word for next year.

I only made the Sunday and am now regretting not booking out the whole weekend - agree with Crusty, it was an excellent race, well thought out and admirably organised. Cheers, all. Do we have to wait a whole year for the next one?

Just to say thanks for putting the weekend together. We really had a blast. As you know it was our first race and despite having to no idea what to expect and having to work through some ropey navigating, it was a great experience. It seems highly likely that Smth for the w/e will grow into a massive event but think we're really pleased we found it in its infancy.

The organisation was second to none, I can’t stress enough how much of a logistical nightmare planning something like this must be. Thanks to Matt and The Might Contain Nuts Team. Bloody Brilliant!

The Might Contain Nuts Team are delighted to announce that “Something for the weekend ” will be back in 2011, offering real adventure, fantastic terrain and a real challenge.

What is it?

“Something for the weekend ” is an adventure race weekend which is set to take place in the beautiful Black Mountains, Mid Wales. Disciplines will include a healthy dose of running, mountain biking and kayaking. Further details of what to expect from individual disciplines can be found on the Event Details page.

There will be two options to choose from. The ‘full beans’ option is to take part in both days as a complete weekend. There is no doubt about it. With a full days racing on the Saturday and on the Sunday, there will be plenty to entertain even the most gnarliest, seasoned AR veterans.

If that sounds a bit much or time simply doesn’t allow, and you want to try something a little more ‘sensible’ then there is the option to race Sunday only – the ‘burner’ option!

This will still involve all three disciplines and will be the same course on the Sunday as the two day event.

It would be fair to say that the Black Mountains packs in more than its fair share of contour lines! Whist the nature of the terrain is spectacular, it is equally challenging. That said, we very much welcome anybody with a reasonable amount of fitness and mental fortitude to take part in either of the above options and we will do our utmost to advise and support you in preparation for the ‘big weekend!’

When is it?

Saturday, July 2nd, 2011: Start 09:00

Sunday, July 3rd, 2011: Start 09:00

Where is it?

Race HQ and the overnight camp site offers far reaching views in to Mid Wales and the Wye Valley. The back drop to the site is the sheer, northern escarpments of the Black Mountains providing an idyllic spot to unwind and socialise with fellow athletes after a hard days racing. It nestles in the hills somewhere between the well renowned Hay on Wye and the aspiring village of Talgarth. It may also be of interest to note that a village pub is about half a mile away if needs must!

How hard is it?

Due to the nature of the event it is difficult to put a mileage on what you might cover, but as a guide:

For the ‘full beans’ option, it is suggested that you should be able to ride a bike in strenuous terrain for 3 – 5 hours, and similarly stay on your feet for approximately the same sort of time and then be able to complete day two as below.

For the ‘burner’ option you will be required to run/walk for 1 hour, paddle for approx 1.5 hour, bike for 2 hours and be able to run/walk for up to 2.5 hours off road.

How much is it?

We’ve done our utmost to keep the costs as low as we can:

2 day ‘Full Beans’ Entry : £89 per Athlete

1 day ‘Burner’ Entry : £49 per Athlete

We have deliberately kept the team categories as broad as possible. In our experience it would seem that ‘vets’ are not at all disadvantaged – in fact generally the opposite. Unfortunately we will not be able to offer a solo category this year due to boat availability. We find that it can be quite difficult forming a mixed team and whilst we very much encourage women to take part teams can be mixed or single sexed and consist of two, three or four members. We hope this makes taking part a whole lot easier and we’ll leave you to decide whether it’s a case of ‘more the merrier!’

Included in the ‘beans’ price is camping on the Friday and Saturday nights (with limited facilities, though good showers are available on site).

The ‘burner’ price includes camping for the Saturday night.
